Before Guitar Pedals For You became a destination for guitarists around the world, it began with two people, one shared passion and a yearly drive to Germany.
Let me take you back to 2018.
This is the last photo of my grandfather and me before our annual trip to Music Store in Germany.
I had just earned my driver's licence and, for the first time, I was the one driving us there. Back then, it felt like any other trip. We had no idea it would be our last.
The truth is, Guitar Pedals For You didn't start with a business plan. It started many years before that.
My grandfather had an incredible passion for guitars, and somewhere along the way, he passed that passion on to me. As a little kid, I was fascinated by every instrument, every amplifier and every effect pedal we came across. Those yearly trips to Germany slowly became our tradition. We weren't chasing expensive gear or rare collectibles; we were simply chasing the excitement of discovering something new.
Looking back, I think that's where Guitar Pedals For You really began.
Not in a warehouse.
Not in a webshop.
But in a car, driving to Germany with my grandfather beside me.
Chapter One
Where curiosity began.
People often ask me how Guitar Pedals For You started.
The funny thing is... it didn't start with a webshop. It didn't even start with a pedal.
It started with curiosity.
As a kid, I was always fascinated by music. Every guitar looked different, every amplifier had its own character, and somehow every effect pedal seemed capable of unlocking a completely new sound. My grandfather never tried to make me love guitars he simply shared what he loved, and I naturally became part of it.
Our annual trips to Germany became something I looked forward to all year. We'd leave early in the morning, spend hours wandering through Music Store, try guitars we'd never buy, test pedals we'd never heard of, and talk about gear the entire drive home.
Looking back, those trips weren't really about buying anything.
They taught me that discovering new sounds is often more exciting than owning them.
And without realizing it, that's where the foundation of Guitar Pedals For You was laid..
Chapter Two
One trip became hundreds.
Somewhere along the way, our yearly tradition became something much bigger.
One trip to Germany turned into weekends spent driving across the Netherlands and beyond. We'd leave early in the morning, fill the car with guitars, amplifiers and pedals, and spend the entire day on the road. Every address had a different story. Sometimes we'd come home with a hidden gem. Other times, we'd drive hours only to discover it wasn't worth taking home at all.
But that never really mattered.
The best part was always the search itself.
Over time, our home slowly filled with gear. We bought, traded and sold equipment not to build a business, but simply because we loved discovering what was out there. Every pedal had its own personality, every guitar its own story, and with every journey we learned something new.
Without realizing it, we were building something much bigger than a collection.
We were building the foundation of Guitar Pedals For You.
Chapter Three
The Brabantse Musicstore
By 2016, the hobby had simply become too big to keep as a hobby.
What started with a few guitars and pedals at home slowly turned into something more serious. That's when I launched The Brabantse Musicstore. It wasn't focused solely on pedals. We bought and sold guitars, amplifiers and all kinds of musical equipment, learning something new with every customer, every trade and every kilometre driven.
Those years taught me far more than how to run a business.
They taught me how to recognise quality, how to build trust and how important honest advice is when someone is searching for the right piece of gear.
Looking back, The Brabantse Musicstore wasn't the destination.
It was the bridge that eventually led to Guitar Pedals For You.
Chapter Four
When everything stood still.
In 2019, everything changed.
After a long battle with lung cancer, my grandfather passed away.
For years, music had been something we shared. We searched together, travelled together and built countless memories along the way. Suddenly, the person who had introduced me to this world was no longer there.
And honestly...
I lost the motivation to continue.
The Brabantse Musicstore came to a standstill. The guitars, the pedals, the long drives across the country none of it felt the same anymore. What had always been our shared passion became a constant reminder of what I'd lost.
For a while, I stepped away from it all.
But some passions never really leave you.
Chapter Five
The pedal that started it all.
Time has a funny way of bringing you back to where you belong.
After stepping away from music for a while, one pedal caught my eye. Sitting quietly on a shelf was the very first effect pedal I had ever owned: a Dunlop Cry Baby.
Out of curiosity, I plugged it in.
One note became a riff. One riff became an evening of playing. Before I knew it, I was searching for pedals again, reading about them, testing them and talking to other musicians. It felt like reconnecting with an old friend I hadn't seen in years.
That's when I realised something.
It was never just about buying and selling gear.
It was about discovering sound.
That single Cry Baby became the first pedal of a new chapter. A chapter that would eventually grow into Guitar Pedals For You a place built around the same curiosity that first brought my grandfather and me to Germany all those years ago.
Because some stories don't really end.
They simply find a new beginning.
Chapter Six
Keep Discovering.
Today, Guitar Pedals For You has been our full-time passion for over five years.
Those years have brought incredible highs, unexpected setbacks and more lessons than we could have imagined. Through every challenge, one thing has never changed: we've always tried to do what's right for the guitarist on the other side of the conversation.
That philosophy continues to guide us today.
We still test every pedal. We still answer every question honestly. And we still get just as excited when a customer discovers a sound they've been searching for.
Because Guitar Pedals For You has never been about selling as many pedals as possible.
It's about creating a place where guitarists feel inspired to explore. A place where used gear gets a second life, rare discoveries find a new owner, and curiosity is always rewarded.
